Competition brief
DIA, (Dessau Institute of Architecture School) calls for submissions for its first temporary Summer Pavilion international competition. The aim of the competition is to present buildable proposals for an innovative temporary structure that provides shelter, shade, and seating for a range of events on a square inside the campus across the famous Gropius Bauhaus Building of 1927.
Just as this icon of Modernism stands for technical innovation and avant-garde design within its own period, the competition wants to address and demonstrate the capacity of contemporary architecture, by encouraging the employment of form-making and digital fabrication methods to transform space in order to captivate the public imagination.
As for the size of the task, the Summer Pavilion is set into a max. volume of 4.00×6.00×3.00 meters with a maximum height limitation of 3.00 m. The competition winner will receive both a prize plus the offer to oversee the realization of the proposal on site, while the aim is to construct the Pavilion by the end of June 2014.
