Es\u00a0vox populi\u00a0que La Posada es la casa m\u00e1s antigua de Galaroza. Pero nadie conoce su antig\u00fcedad real, m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de ser dato p\u00fablico que los primeros repobladores cristianos medievales se asentaron en el barrio de Los Riscos, donde este edificio se ubica. En 1993 una familia venida de Sevilla la tom\u00f3 para su recreo en este pueblo serrano y sus parajes de espesos bosques, poniendo medios de urgencia para detener su decadencia. Dos d\u00e9cadas m\u00e1s tarde, fue el emplazamiento elegido por inN arquitectura para su estudio y residencia, dando as\u00ed inicio a la etapa m\u00e1s reciente en la centenaria historia de este Arquitectura (maqueta)\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Qu\u00e9 duda cabe que abrir en 2012 un estudio con vocaci\u00f3n contempor\u00e1nea en un pueblo de serran\u00eda fue una decisi\u00f3n arriesgada. Una dif\u00edcil empresa que defendimos a base de tes\u00f3n y perseverancia. Apoy\u00e1ndonos en herramientas ya entonces cotidianas, comprobamos que una localizaci\u00f3n c\u00e9ntrica se nos hac\u00eda cada vez m\u00e1s irrelevante. Los sistemas de reparto, transporte y comunicaci\u00f3n hacen viables opciones profesionales en lugares antes insospechados. Lugares de inmejorable calidad ambiental, que abren canales a una creatividad nueva, inspirada y nutrida en la tradici\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Un espacio en el que habitar y trabajar se presta, cuando el oficio es el de arquitecto, a una reflexi\u00f3n sobre los procesos detr\u00e1s de lo creativo y lo cotidiano y, lo que es m\u00e1s importante, las transferencias entre ambos. El trabajo en casa se desembaraza hoy de la carga peyorativa de otros tiempos. M\u00e1s all\u00e1 de la comodidad de dar un salto al escritorio o a la nevera para un tentempi\u00e9 de media ma\u00f1ana, sobran los motivos para traer el trabajo a casa -aunque de ser fieles a nuestra historia, en realidad trajimos la casa al trabajo-. Pero no todo son ventajas, en el debe est\u00e1 la dificultad de trazar la fina l\u00ednea que mantiene a raya las inevitables disputas dom\u00e9sticas, o evitar que las confortables transferencias no terminen por convertirse en interferencias cronificadas.<\/p>\n<p>Todas estas cuestiones fueron debatidas en el desarrollo de la propuesta. Finalmente entendimos que el resultado vendr\u00eda dado por nuestra actitud ante la vida y la profesi\u00f3n \u00bfEs el oficio del arquitecto-dise\u00f1ador un sustento o una actitud existencial? En nuestro caso estaba claro. En todo momento quisimos evitar cesuras, aunque la dualidad fuera clara, nos decantamos por espacios ambiguos en las zonas de tangencia, como la entrada\/zagu\u00e1n o la sala multifuncional de la planta superior. En planta, las zonas de trabajo, de orientaci\u00f3n transversal, se cruzan con las dom\u00e9sticas, claramente longitudinales, por su orientaci\u00f3n al corral. Las l\u00edneas se cruzan en un contacto intencionado. M\u00e1s a\u00fan, las estancias se pueden adecuar seg\u00fan el devenir personal y profesional. Como un sal\u00f3n que se adapta como espacio expositivo, o un despacho que se torna dormitorio principal.<\/p>\n<p>Para este prop\u00f3sito La Posada resulta ser el continente id\u00f3neo. Su esquema rudo, al tiempo que generoso y sincero, se presta gustoso al baile de estancias. Su diversa espacialidad, desde lo m\u00e1s rec\u00f3ndito de la bodega, hasta la desnuda materialidad del doblado, es materia prima para la exploraci\u00f3n creativa y la sorpresa en el hallazgo. Encontrar un uso a todos ellos condujo a una inesperada reflexi\u00f3n sobre el proceso creativo, tanto en sus automatismos como en los estados de \u00e1nimo que lo gobiernan. En ejercicio de introspecci\u00f3n se desmenuzan los pasos que van desde la comunicaci\u00f3n del encargo hasta la exposici\u00f3n de resultados. Un recorrido, en ocasiones tormentoso, que oscila entre el trazo inconsciente -recordemos a Aalto- hasta la precisi\u00f3n entintada del ingeniero. Aqu\u00ed concretado en cuatro pasos, cada uno de ellos asignados a las tres plantas f\u00edsicas de la casa y a la imaginaria del corral.<\/p>\n<p>Previo incluso a la experimentaci\u00f3n, hay en la creaci\u00f3n algo subterr\u00e1neo, pasional e inconfesable. Sensaciones que anidan bien en entornos abstractos, primitivos y envolventes, como en la oscuridad de la bodega.<\/p>\n<p>Por qu\u00e9 no dejar de pensar en ella como un rinc\u00f3n insalubre en busca de redenci\u00f3n y reconocerla como lo que es: un puente al subconsciente. Fue Bachelard quien habl\u00f3 del s\u00f3tano como del \u00abser oscuro de la casa\u00bb: \u00abEn el s\u00f3tano las tinieblas subsisten noche y d\u00eda. Incluso con su palmatoria en la mano, el hombre ve en el s\u00f3tano c\u00f3mo danzan las sombras sobre el negro muro\u00bb. Sombras danzantes, oquedades cavernosas, im\u00e1genes todas que nos retrotraen a los or\u00edgenes de la creaci\u00f3n. Esta reinterpretaci\u00f3n de la cuadra, nos permite repensar el resto de la bodega, la que fuera posada de arrieros, contrabandistas y caminantes, como un nodo de socializaci\u00f3n en torno a la artesan\u00eda, las artes y la cultura en general. Recuperando as\u00ed su vocaci\u00f3n p\u00fablica.<\/p>\n<p>La experimentaci\u00f3n en cambio exige luz, en abundancia, y volumen. En el doblado, la gran sala multifuncional, de una diafanidad tan s\u00f3lo interrumpida por un viejo horno de barro, es el \u00e1mbito que mejor re\u00fane los requisitos. En ella todo se antoja posible: testar materiales, poner a prueba intuiciones, explorar talentos ocultos, reafirmar al equipo, la simple elucubraci\u00f3n&#8230; En suma, un taller de ideas, en el sentido amplio de la expresi\u00f3n. Es por esto importante que est\u00e9 en relaci\u00f3n de contig\u00fcidad con el \u00e1mbito del despacho, que es donde se muestra la sintetizaci\u00f3n y maduraci\u00f3n del concepto.<\/p>\n<p>Pero ser\u00eda injusto concluir aqu\u00ed la descripci\u00f3n del proceso. Entendemos que los resultados m\u00e1s f\u00e9rtiles se alcanzan solo mediante ciclos de retiro-retorno. Esto es, a toda fase intensiva ha de seguir una de desconexi\u00f3n. La pr\u00e1ctica de la descompresi\u00f3n es tan indispensable como saludable. No es del abandono de lo que hablamos, sino de un\u00a0otium, tan gratificante como \u00fatil, cultivar una afici\u00f3n, una ocupaci\u00f3n placentera y llevadera que amenice la mente con inquietudes tan solo en apariencia alejadas. Aqu\u00ed es la horticultura, que localizamos en esa cruj\u00eda intuida y casi trazada en el aterrazamiento del corral.<\/p>\n<p>Y con todo esto, presente y tenaz, ruidosa y constante, rutinaria y sorprendente, se entreteje la vida. De nuevo La Posada nos da el pie, como el buen actor que recita las primeras palabras para que el compa\u00f1ero contin\u00fae el texto. Un luminoso corral atrae vigoroso las estancias de uso diurno. Se trata aqu\u00ed de una lectura transversal de la casa, que abre espacios, en una relaci\u00f3n de continuidad que salva, con gradas habitables, el desnivel que ha impedido un encuentro largamente anhelado. La ubicaci\u00f3n de la cocina, el comedor, ba\u00f1o y dormitorio principal responden a la misma estrategia, de manera que la mayor parte del programa residencial se concentra en la planta intermedia.<\/p>\n<p>Junto con el corral, el otro rasgo definitorio de La Posada es la cota variable de la calle, que deja, hacia el fondo de la parcela, una planta completamente enterrada. Estas dos caracter\u00edsticas definen usos adicionales que se superponen al ciclo circadiano. Si el corral, luminoso, verde, jovial, es estival, la bodega, oscura, constante, a refugio, de imponente chimenea, tiene, en el crepitar de la le\u00f1a, atributos invernales. Ambos, en su naturaleza propia, son los espacios expansivos naturales del hogar.<\/p>\n<p>La rehabilitaci\u00f3n de La Posada tom\u00f3 cinco a\u00f1os, un proceso largo y arduo en el que cada decisi\u00f3n fue fruto del cari\u00f1o y la precisi\u00f3n. En este tiempo no ha habido superficie por la que no haya pasado una mano humana, una o varias veces. Como si de una gran carena se tratase, enteros tramos de forjados fueron retirados, sus elementos acopiados, revisados, seleccionados y recolocados. Todo aquello que de valor en ella hab\u00eda, fue reutilizado en el mismo lugar o en otro en que fuera de utilidad.<\/p>\n<p>En tiempos en los que el lenguaje de la sostenibilidad es\u00a0koin\u00e9, no podemos dejar de incidir en que el material m\u00e1s sostenible es el que no se usa. Forjados completos se realizaron con madera recuperada de la misma casa, tanto vigas y rollizos como alfarj\u00edas. Las piedras de la demolici\u00f3n se usaron para recrecer el hastial o el muro del corral. Las baldosas de barro para regularizar los tapiales o pavimentar el corral. Los ladrillos de taco se guardaron para recrecidos o reparar el horno de pan. Las cubiertas conservan a\u00fan su vieja teja curada con sol y lluvia. Incluso las puertas de paso se emplearon para mobiliario.<\/p>\n<p>Entre los inevitables materiales de aportaci\u00f3n sobresalen la madera, la teja cer\u00e1mica y las baldosas manuales de barro. Seg\u00fan la obra avanzaba ganaron fuerza los morteros de cal y otros conglomerados tradicionales. Pudiendo decir,\u00a0sensu stricto, que la \u00faltima fase de la ejecuci\u00f3n se desarroll\u00f3 \u00edntegramente bajo criterios de arquitectura ecol\u00f3gica. La reparaci\u00f3n de los tapiales del doblado se hizo con mortero de cal y el pavimento es un suelo continuo de barro realizado a partir de tierras de Valdelarco, el pueblo vecino. Los profusos panelados de madera, elaborados por las manos expertas de los carpinteros de Galaroza, no hacen sino ahondar m\u00e1s en la senda hacia la autenticidad.<\/p>\n<p>Un lustro da para multitud de situaciones. Ser\u00eda tentador dividir el proceso en cuatro proyectos, tres por cada planta y uno por el corral. Pero la realidad es que toda decisi\u00f3n responde a una sola premisa rectora: leer cada espacio como versos de un poema. Buscando, en todo lugar, el conjunto m\u00e1s arm\u00f3nico de soluciones, sin histrionismos vac\u00edos de contenido, hilvanando con coherencia los solapamientos propios de una casa-estudio. Dividiendo lo menos posible, entendiendo la casa como un gran prisma trapezoidal de habitar compartido.<\/p>\n<p>El tour de force de esta gran carena entrega a la casa una generaci\u00f3n o dos m\u00e1s de vida para albergar el ensue\u00f1o de sus habitantes. Sabemos bien que no est\u00e1 acabada, y es bueno que as\u00ed sea, todo ha sido tan solo una p\u00e1gina m\u00e1s en sus siete siglos. La viviremos mientras queramos, o podamos, para dejarla en manos del siguiente posadero. Two decades later, it was the location chosen by inN arquitectura for its studio and residence, thus beginning the most recent stage in the centennial history of this emblematic house.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There is no doubt that opening a studio with a contemporary vocation in a town in the mountains in 2012 was a risky decision. A difficult undertaking that we defended with tenacity and perseverance. Relying on tools that were already there, we verified that a central location became increasingly irrelevant to us. Delivery, transportation and communication systems make professional options such as ours viable in previously unsuspected places. Places of unbeatable environmental quality, which open channels to a new creativity, inspired and nurtured by tradition.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When it comes to architects, a space in which to live and work moves to reflect on the processes behind the creative and the everyday and, most importantly, the transfers between the two. Work at home is freed today from the pejorative image of other times. Beyond the convenience of hopping to the desk or fridge for a mid-morning snack, there are plenty of reasons to bring work home -although to be true to our story, we actually brought home to work-. But not all are advantages, it\u2019s often difficult to draw the fine line that keeps the inevitable domestic disputes at bay, or preventing comfortable transfers from ending up becoming chronic interference.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>All these issues were discussed in the development of the proposal. Finally we understood that the result would be given by our attitude towards life. Is the profession of the architect-designer a livelihood or an existential attitude? In our case it was clear. At all times we wanted to avoid caesuras, although the duality was clear, we opted for ambiguous spaces in areas of tangency, such as the entrance\/hallway or the multifunctional room on the upper floor. In plan, the work areas, with a transversal orientation, intersect with the domestic ones, clearly longitudinal, due to their orientation to the corral. The lines cross in intentional contact. Furthermore, the rooms can be adapted according to personal and professional development. Like a living room that can be used as an exhibition space, or an office that turns into a master bedroom.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>For this purpose La Posada turns out to be the ideal continent. Its rude scheme, while generous and sincere, lends itself willingly to the dance of rooms. Its diverse spatiality, from the most remote of the cellar, to the naked materiality of the upper floor. Finding a use for all of them led to an unexpected reflection on the creative process, both in its automatisms and in the states of mind that govern it. In an exercise of introspection, the steps that go from the communication of the order to the presentation of results are explored. A journey, at times stormy, that oscillates between the unconscious line -remember Aalto- to the inked precision of the engineer. Here specified in four steps, each of them assigned to the three physical floors of the house and the imaginary one of the corral.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Even prior to experimentation, there is something subterranean, passionate and unspeakable in creation. Sensations that nest well in abstract, primitive and enveloping environments, like in the darkness of the cellar. Why not stop thinking of it as an unhealthy corner in search of redemption and recognize it for what it is: a bridge to the subconscious. It was Bachelard who spoke of the cellar as the \u00abdark being of the house\u00bb: \u00abin the cellar the darkness subsists night and day. Even with his candlestick in hand, the man sees in the basement how the shadows dance on the black wall. Dancing shadows, cavernous cavities, all images that take us back to the origins of creation. This reinterpretation of the block allows us to rethink the rest of the cellar, which was once an inn for muleteers, smugglers and walkers, as a socialization node around crafts, arts and culture in general. Thus recovering its public vocation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Experimentation, on the other hand, requires abundant light and volume. In the upper floor, the large multifunctional room, with its open concept, only interrupted by an old clay oven, is the area that best meets the requirements. Everything seems possible in it: testing materials, putting intuitions to the test, exploring hidden talents, reaffirming the team, simple speculation\u2026 In short, an ideas workshop, in the broadest sense of the expression. For this reason, it is important that it be in a close relationship with the area of the office, which is where the synthesis and maturation of the concept is shown.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But it would be unfair to end the description of the process here. We understand that the most fertile results are achieved only through thr withdrawal-return cycle. That is, every intensive phase must be followed by a disconnection phase. The practice of decompression is as indispensable as it is healthy. It is not about abandonment that we are talking about, but about an\u00a0otium, as gratifying as it is useful, like cultivating a hobby, a pleasant and bearable occupation that softens the mind with matters that are only apparently distant. Here it is horticulture, which we locate in that intuited and almost traced bay in the terrace of the corral.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And with all this, present and tenacious, noisy and constant, monotonous and surprising, life is interwoven. Once again La Posada gives us the cue, like the good actor who recites the first words so that his partner continues the text. A luminous corral vigorously attracts the day-use rooms. Here it is a transversal reading of the house, which opens spaces, in a relationship of continuity that saves, with habitable steps, the unevenness that has prevented a long-awaited encounter. The location of the kitchen, dining room, bathroom and master bedroom respond to the same strategy, so that most of the residential program is concentrated on the middle floor.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Along with the corral, the other defining feature of La Posada is the variable height of the street, which leaves, towards the end of the plot, a completely buried floor. These two characteristics define additional uses that overlap with the circadian cycle. If the corral, bright, green, jovial, is summer, the cellar, dark, constant, sheltered, with an imposing fireplace, has, in the crackle of the firewood, winter attributes. Both, in their very nature, are the natural expansive spaces of the home.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The rehabilitation of La Posada took five years, a long and arduous process in which each decision was made with care and thought. In this time there has not been a surface through which a human hand has not passed, once or several times. As if it were a great careening, entire sections of slabs were removed, their elements collected, reviewed, selected and repositioned. Everything that was of value in it was reused in the same place or where it was more useful.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In times when the language of sustainability is\u00a0koin\u00e9, we cannot fail to emphasize that the most sustainable material is the one that is not used. Complete floors were made with wood recovered from the same house. The demolition stones were used to regrow the walls. The clay tiles to regularize the walls or pave the corral. The block bricks were saved to repair rammed earth walls or the bread oven. The roofs still keep their old tiles cured with sun and rain. Even doors were used as furniture.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Among the unavoidable input materials, wood, ceramic tiles and clay tiles stand out. As the work progressed, the lime mortars and other traditional conglomerates gained strength. So much so, that the last phase of the execution was carried out entirely under ecological architecture criteria,\u00a0sensu stricto. The repair of the walls of the upper floor was made with lime mortar and the pavement is a continuous clay floor made out from earth brought from Valdelarco, the neighboring town. The profuse wooden paneling, made by the expert hands of the Galaroza carpenters, is another sign of authenticity.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Multitude of situations can take place in five years. It would be tempting to divide the process into four projects, three for each floor and one for the garden. But the reality is that every decision responds to a single guiding premise: reading each space as the verse of a poem. Searching, everywhere, for the most harmonious set of solutions, free from histrionic and empty gestures, coherently uniting the typical overlapping realities of a house-studio. Dividing walls are minimum, thus understanding the house as a great trapezoidal prism for a shared living.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The\u00a0tour de force of this great careening gives The Inn another generation or two to house the dreams of its inhabitants. We know well that it is not finished, and it is good that it is so, everything has just been another page in its seven centuries history. We will live it as long as we want, or can, and then leave it in the hands of the next innkeeper.
